Virtual Slideshow Now Available

I had the wonderful opportunity to present a virtual slideshow to the Hunterdon County Rug Artisan Guild of photos and backgrounds of many of my rugs in various stages of completion.

Documenting hooking progress has been a tool I use to keep myself focused and on target….especially since I don’t always know how my original designs will come out in the end.

A virtual slideshow is planned for another Guild soon, and I can do the same for your hooking group. Contact me for details.

SOMERSET COUNTY LIBRARY ~ Warren Township Branch

42 Mountain Boulevard, Warren, NJ 07059

A collection of original hooked rugs will be displayed during the entire months of June and July, 2021 in the lobby of the library in Warren Township. Unfortunately, we cannot have a demonstration or a Meet and Greet, but I invite you to come by to see the new rugs created during the past year. Hope to see you at a future event.

Visit my ETSY Shop!

Opportunities for shows and hooking demonstrations came to a screeching halt in 2020 . So I went the way of many artists and crafters before me and opened a shop on the very popular ETSY platform.

In addition to completed rugs and ready-to-frame prints of hooked rugs, rug patterns are now also for sale, drawn on paper or linen. Also new is a line of very appealing original primitive patterns by Debbie Kolodziej.

SHOW and SALE

Kathy LaCorte of 5 East Gallery invited me back for another show at her Kathy's Kove Antique Center and Gallery for a month-long show and sale of my southwest and native inspired original hooked rugs.

The rugs are still displayed in the gallery and can be viewed by appointment by giving Kathy a call at (908) 689-6878. Of course, you can also view them on this website gallery and purchase directly from my webstore.

Hooked Rugs Inspired by Native American Designs on Display

Entire month of November, 2019

Hunterdon County Library - North

65 Halstead Street, Clinton, NJ 08809

Native American cultures are the source of inspiration in my collection of original hand-hooked rugs. Incorporated are the appreciation of our beautiful landscapes, imagery of native bead work and colorful stripes found in pottery & blankets. Together they produce a compelling art display from nature and objects used in daily life.

MEET AND GREET

   Saturday, Nov 2, 2019 ** 10:00-3:00 ** Library 2nd Floor Gallery

Rug Hooking will be demonstrated. Visitors are invited to bring their hooking projects for an informal hook-in or to pull a few loops. Other rugs and posters will be on display and offered for sale.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to see the rug hooking demo at the Hartzel-Strassburger Homestead Fall Festival, especially Lee of Franconia, PA who did a great job in pulling a few loops.   We had an excellent turnout of interested folks of all ages to admire the skill and diversity of hooking styles of my colleagues, Karl Gimber and Aggie Harris.

Nice to see Dawn and others who come by each year to say hello.

Two enthusiastic young girls stopped by the hooking demo at the Hunterdon County Fair to 'pull a few loops' and did an amazing job for their first attempt. Anne (9) and Kathrine (7) showed amazing control and dexterity (and patience) while experiencing a new craft. Well done, girls!

Talking 'rug hooking' with many people who stop by a demo event is a pleasant bonus to actually designing and hooking. And no bigger and better bonus than to educate youngsters on the art of hooking. Such was the case when Kayleigh Boraski from Skillman, NJ stopped by the demo last year and pulled a few loops of the rug on my frame.

She came again this year with a hooking kit she received as a gift and asked for help getting started. With pleasure! We stretched her design printed on monks cloth over my frame. With a few basic instructions on hooking in a straight line, she was off, exhibited an early interest and talent in creating her first signature mat. Watch for her completed piece in my Guest Gallery one day soon. Way to go, Kayleigh!

A Hooked Rug Finds a Permanent Home on

America's Most Decorated Battleship

The spirit of the Battleship New Jersey was captured in a hooked rug and recently presented for public & permanent display aboard ship. The New Jersey earned 21 commendations for service in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Beirut, Lebanon, Persian Gulf and Operation Desert Storm.

Honored are those who served on her with a sense of pride, love of country, and commitment to defend our nation’s security. We thank those who are now her guardians and are preserving the memory of her service to our country.

2018 County Fair Rug Hooking Demonstrations

Summertime means County Fairs to those of living in agricultural regions. New Jersey is known as the Garden State for good reason. We have farms growing fruits and vegetables, crops for local use and export, pick-you-own farms, and victory gardens in family neighborhoods.

The Hunterdon County (NJ) Rug Hooking Guild will again demonstrate hooking at the Mercer County 4-H Fair at the Howell Living History Museum in Lambertville, and Hunterdon County Agricultural Fair in Ringoes. Look for me, I'll be there.

Rug Exhibit at Hunterdon County Library-Main Branch

Earlier this year, the Library and I partnered in a display featuring hooked rugs along side of books relating to the rug theme.

 Alice Beatty Chapter of ATHA

The incredibly talented rug hookers at the Alice Beatty Chapter recently invited me to speak to their membership on my hooking techniques and inspiration for my original designs. Twenty rug examples were displayed, including a rug started in 1965 with the most primitive tools imaginable! Oh, did we laugh! Thank you for gifting me your wonderful Hooking and Cooking book.

The monthly Chapter meetings are held in North Plainfield, NJ. For info: powderhornsue@verizon.net

Howell Living Farm

70 Wooden's Lane, Lambertville, NJ 08530

Sunday, July 30, 2017 * 10:00-1:00

This working farm takes you back to the year 1900 when handcrafting was a necessity AND a work of art. I’ll be hooking alongside animal shows and exhibits, homemade ice cream, bee-keeping, hay rides, pony rides, music, magic shows, and farm tours. A real smorgasbord of rural life! Should be an interesting day….and admission and parking are free.

The Bouman-Stickney Farmstead Hosts My Next Hooking Demonstration

Sunday, April 2, 2017 - 1:00-4:00 pm

114 Dreahook Road, Lebanon, NJ 08885

The Bouman-Stickney Farmstead is named for Dutch homesteader, Thomas Bouman. The stone bank house with Dutch and German architectural influences was built in 1741. Later it became the country retreat of Broadway playwright and producer Howard Lindsay and his wife, Broadway and movie actress Dorothy Stickney. In 1997 it became a part of the Readington Township consortium of museums.

What a wonderful setting in which to demonstrate rug hooking. Hope you’ll join me to talk rugs and try your hand at pulling a few loops. Maybe you’ll get hooked. Free admission.

14th Annual Colonial Christmas @ Jacobus Vanderveer House and Museum

3055 River Road, Bedminster, NJ 07921

The Jacobus Vanderveer House was the headquarters of General Henry Knox during the winter of 1778-79 and the only surviving building associated with the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment, America’s first military academy. A National and New Jersey historic site, the Vanderveer House interprets 18th century Dutch-Colonial life through the Vanderveer and Knox families and underscores the Pluckemin Cantonment’s role in helping the Continental Army to defeat the British during the American Revolution.

2016 Colonial Christmas House Tours and Festivities - http://jvanderveerhouse.org/events/

During the month of November, 2016 ....

Rugs will be a month-long feature at The Lebanon Township Museum at New Hampton located on 57 Musconetcong River Road in New Hampton in what was formerly the New Hampton School. An artists reception was held on Saturday, November 5 with a wonderful turnout. Thanks to everyone who attended. It was great to meet you.

"Orphan Train" is Taking a Field Trip

September, 2016

The descendants of the Orphan Train riders will meet for their 56th annual reunion to share family histories and discover what new information may have surfaced during the searches for more biological family connections.

The reunion organizers have accepted my offer to display "Orphan Train" ... so off it will go on a month-long excursion to Little Falls, Minnesota.

North County Library - Hunterdon

Clinton, New Jersey

Rugs have the capability of telling stories and what better place to display "story rugs" than in my hometown library.

Research librarian, Mary Noone-Kozakiewicz graciously welcomed me to stage my rugs alongside of books of a similar topic, including books on rock music with my "Kalideoscope Eyes" and "Jerry Lives", and a book on Amelia Earhart with "Everyone Has Oceans to Fly".

The Quadrant

20 North 3rd Street, Easton, PA 18042

The Quadrant is another one of those quirky but delightfully intriguing hangouts, combining a coffee shoppe, book store, and gallery...you can spend hours there!

In association with ACE (Arts Community of Easton) my rugs were included in a month-long display with other women artists exhibiting their fibre art.

A great setting in which to linger over coffee.

5 East Gallery, Washington, NJ

The very savvy business owner, Kathy LaCorte, hosted an artist's reception for me in the gallery at her Kathy's Kove Antique Center, an amazing potpourri of fine art, jewelry, objects d'art, decorator art, music and special events all in a cordial setting, complete with a tearoom.

It was so much fun to meet everyone and 'talk rugs' all afternoon.

The Stangl Marketplace

I was delighted to have a display and demonstrate rug hooking at the Stangl Marketplace in Flemington, NJ. The historic and beautiful stone building with its three magnificent kilns originally housed the Fulper Pottery Works back in the early 1920's and later became the Stangl Pottery factory showroom in the 50's and 60's. Pfaltzgraff then took ownership of the building for many years.

Now it continues to be a weekly marketplace, featuring local farm produce, a studio for creative pottery artisans and showcases local artists like me.
